Froggy the Robot


As a father/daughters project in 2008, we made a robot called “Froggy”. Froggy was controlled by an RS232 serial receiver controlled by numeric commands sent via a cable from the serial port of a laptop. In addition to commands to make him move, he also could stick out his “tongue” and collect BBs using a magnet. Errata: in the video I meant to say that the NOT gates pulled enough current from the PNP transitor bases (not collectors) to saturate the transistors (i.e. turn them on). The NOT gates also kept the UART from getting fried if something shorted out on the relay side. Froggy’s brain will soon be dissected so that I can drive him using the output of the GPIOs of my new Raspberry Pi.
